3 Reasons Why a Vitamin Overdose is Bad for You

Have you ever taken a vitamin overdose? You may have been trying to ward off a cold by taking a vitamin C overdose or you may even have thought you where suffering from a vitamin deficiency. Whatever the reason, please carefully consider the following reasons for discontinuing this questionable practice.

The toxicity of overdosing fat soluble Vitamins A or D is well known, but no one knows the long term affects of taking megadoses of water soluble vitamins. You only have one life; why be a guinea pig for unproven theories?

1. It unbalances your body chemistry.

A healthy body is a delicate balance. Too much of one nutrient can use up other nutrients in order to deal with the excess. Each individual is unique and you may have a genetic weakness that is triggered by megadoses of vitamins which have caused others no ill effects.

Vitamins are called micronutrients because your body only needs small amounts each day to stay healthy. Vitamins are not food.

When your body is dealing with excess vitamins, it detracts from more important functions such as neutralizing free radicals. In a real sense, a vitamin overdose keeps your body busy doing less important work.

2. It violates the law of moderation.

A lack of moderation is also a lack of balance. In a sense, it is an escape from reality. Often it is an attempt to escape the consequences of immoderate consumption of alcohol, sugar, or other junk foods.

The real world just doesn’t work that way. You can’t expect to solve a health problem that took many years to develop merely by overdosing on some vitamins. If you are suffering from a newly diagnosed health problem you need to consider lifestyle changes that go far beyond merely taking vitamin supplements.

3. It wastes your money.

If you’re lucky, your body merely deals with the excess vitamins by promptly eliminating them from your body. The end result of this is that you’ve wasted your money for those vitamin supplements.

A slightly worse scenario is when your body flushes other minerals in an effort to eliminate the excess nutrients from the overdose. This also wastes the money spent on vitamin supplements but also causes a possible shortage of other nutrients.

The worst case is when the vitamin overdose accumulates within your body and builds to some toxic level on a future date. Instead of preventing a problem, this creates liability that will one day come due.
